I have been thinking about a school friend’s grandma. I think I met her when I was in first grade. I remember that she had beautiful, straight teeth and she did not have any cavities and to my first grade grade self, she was old. I don’t remember how the conversation started, but I found out that she brushed her teeth with baking soda.
I have brushed my teeth with baking soda when I was young. I recently told Sean about that, and he said, “Oh, I’m not stranger to baking soda to brush your teeth!” That’s right! I forgot about that! Sean has always had sensitive teeth because he was two months immature. I have always got him Pronamel toothpaste, to brush his teeth. I have been a single mother, my entire adult life on my own.
That was seriously $6 toothpaste! But teeth have always been important to me. I know that my grandma, my Dad‘s mom was big on teeth and I remember Mary Pryor’s grandma talking about teeth.
With so many of my abilities, changing constantly, I saw that meme that asked what hasn’t changed with your MS diagnosis. Well, I said my teeth. Because everything is expensive right now, I am currently brushing my teeth with baking soda. I use essential oil toothpaste, which is a little bit pricey but I can handle baking soda until I get more.
I remember my only drug test at work, because I only worked in one place for my ‘big girl job’ before MS decided to let me know that I can no longer work anymore. I had to put what looked like a toothbrush in my mouth to drug test me. My brother, Steve, walked in on the test and he asked me how it tasted. I looked at him and said that, “It tastes like baking soda!”
it really did and I don’t mind it now in the short term because things are expensive and I will get my toothpaste soon. For now, I’m cool with using baking soda. It reminds me of that drug test and Mary Pryor’s grandma. Besides, Sean will be 25 on Monday?! I’m thinking about that and that’s what I’m spending my little bit of money on.
