A Tale of 2 Knee Surgeries

Both of my basketball coaches. had knee surgery when I was in fifth grade. I remember saying that I wish I had knee surgery because they get attention and they can walk with crutches.

The fact that I said that haunts me to this day! I have had two new surgeries. My first knee surgery was ACL reconstruction in my right knee. That happened in January and I was playing softball with a brace by May. I had a crazy scar, but that was pretty much it.

My first surgery was January 2000. I was diagnosed with MS on December 28, 2000. My second knee surgery was July 2017. That was a complete meniscus tear that needed three stitches to get fixed. I remember my first knee surgeon telling me that my meniscus was intact and that was good because otherwise that would be really painful. Now, I KNOW how painful it would be because I experienced it 17 years later! But having MS for 17 years, sure made recovery a little bit different. Or, A LOT different!

I have a ‘bum knee’ now. Both surgeries were in my right knee. Now, I call my right side my ‘poop side.’ That is because it is my bad eye, I can only see 20/100 out of it that’s the big E) and I have Osteoporosis in this hip. Maybe this happened because I’m left-handed? My knee hurts all the time and that’s why I use the tens unit every day. A tale of two knee surgeries. It’s kind of a bummer story. It hurts. I wouldn’t recommend it… But I have to live it.
