17 Minutes

I had my virtual Neurology appointment today. It lasted 17 minutes. it was the first time that as soon as Dr. Cerghet got on the phone, I laid out what I have done this year. I told her about my podiatrist and changing my compression socks from close toe to open toe. I told her about Dr. K and my two endoscopies and that I don’t need to see her until next year because my bladder stone was passed. I also told her that my neural ophthalmologist told me that I don’t need to see her again until 2028 because my eyes are stable.

I told her about my 10 pound weight loss which I am concerned about but I told her that my internist was not concerned. I told her that I still have weight to lose so it’s really not a big deal and she told me that since my internist is not concerned, she’s not either. She offered nutrition consultation, but I told her I’m OK.

She saw that Dr. Chamas ordered bloodwork for me and she added two different tests. They need to perform when they take my blood. Something about B12 or something? I am not going to get my blood work until next March when I see Dr. Chamas again.

This was the first time that I told her that my legs do not work at all, and I told her about stretching my arms and hands daily. She was surprised at how well I could still raise my arms. She had me rub my fingers next to each ear to see if they sounded the same and they did. They always do at this point. She had me look to my right in my left and she asked me to close one eye and tell her how many fingers she was holding up. My left eye could see fine, but my right eye was a little bit rough.

She gave me a referral for a swallow test, which I probably will take in April? My first swallow test was October 2021. I think things have changed. I drink two shakes a day and then eat dinner. I told her it just feels different.

She asked about my skin and I told her that my Mom takes really good care of that! My Mom asked her how she was and she has a granddaughter. She met Sean today as well because he was here.

She told me that if I have any problems that I can contact her, otherwise I will see her next year. I’m glad my appointment is over and my next outing is to the Cidermill next Friday. I’ve been looking forward to that all year!!!

Vanilla Maple

Yesterday, four tubes of Vanilla Maple arrived at my house from Burt’s bees. That was right on time! So yesterday, I finished the Pumpkin Spice flavor first by feeling the scrape on my lips and then I switched over to Chai, which I still had. I have never changed horses mid race before but I did yesterday by finishing the day with Chai after starting with Pumpkin Spice. I finished last night before I went to bed.

Today, I am using last of the Vanilla Maple. I had leftover from before, before I start one of the four tubes that I have now. This really doesn’t matter at all, but what else do I have to do?! I’m not leaving the house until the 23rd. I’m so excited for Cider mill!!!

Dental Health

I was thinking about my 17 minute virtual appointment with my neurologist that I just had. I surprised her with two things. I think I started seeing her in 2016 when my first neurologist retired. I remember that I thought that my neurologist would fix me 25 years ago but after 25 years, almost 26, that is not the case. I need to fix myself. Or rather, there is NO fixing, just have to deal with it. That is proving kind of rough to say the least!

But what I was thinking about is that I surprised her twice. She was surprised at first when she asked me to raise my arms and I could with ease. I told her I stretch my arms and hands every day. I remember that I saw an internist in 2021? I stretched my arms for her and I told her that I will eventually lose that ability and she just kind of furrowed her brow, and said, “Maybe not.”

Dr. Cerghet was surprised at the ease with which I raised my arms up. I told her that I stretch my arms and my hands every day because I do. I know that I will lose abilities, even more than I already have lost, but I guess I wanna keep it at bay as much as I can. I listen to audio rosaries as I stretch my hands with my therapy putty, and then another when I stretch my arms.

The last thing that she asked me to do which I don’t remember her asking me to do it before was to open my mouth. Right when she asked, I opened my mouth wide and stuck out my tongue a little bit. She was audibly surprised! I told her that I go to the dentist three times a year for my cleanings now and she asked me to move my tongue. Her surprise startled me and I thought back to my working days.

I went to lunch with a friend on Saturday morning. We laughed and talked, and I think it was almost toward the end of our meal when she looked at me and asked me quite seriously, if I had any cavities. I was not prepared for that question and I think I swallowed and I told her that I did not. But I definitely wasn’t ready for what she asked next. “Can I see?” I remember that I swallowed again and I think I took a sip of water and then I slowly opened my mouth in the middle of a busy restaurant in the middle of the day. I had never had someone ask me to do that before, but I take dental hygiene, quite seriously!

I had no problem opening my mouth for Dr. Cerghet. I have said before that my dental appointments are the only time that I feel good about myself because those are always good. I am currently in transition because my dentist who I’ve had for all my life retired and a corporation took over the practice. I still go to the same office, but I have different doctors now. Last time I had Dr. Dawood and I’ve had him before. His check ups are very short because there’s nothing wrong with my mouth. The time before last, I had a woman, and I don’t remember her name, I don’t think she introduced herself to me. She checked my teeth and she pressed on my back molars. There was nothing wrong with them, but that was very strange because I haven’t had them press on my back molars in a long time because my teeth are good.

At least my dental health is good! at least that is something because everything else is progressively worse. My job now is just to keep things at bay for as long as I can.

“It’s Okay.” OR Mr. Potter, “Shove Me Up”

So, something is wrong with my chair. But it’s different this time. I can move my legs and my seat up and down, but I can’t go forward and backward so it’s okay!

This morning, I could drink my shake and stretch my arms and hands like nothing was wrong. I did need my mom to give me my pills this morning because I couldn’t move from where I was seated. other than that, it’s okay. My Mom handed me my pills all day long, today.

Mu Mom called the after hours number, but they were closed so we will wait until Monday and hopefully it can be fixed virtually. I hope that is the case because that will be free, but if parts are needed, that’s another story.

This morning as my Mom got me into my chair, it worked out. However, I completely felt like Mr. Potter From it’s a Wonderful Life.

My Mom, had to, “Shove me up” and I only have to leave the house five more times this year and it’s not a lot of movement. So if push comes to shove…

I found a clip that I’m talking about from It’s a Wonderful Life and I will put it in the comments because I can’t embed stuff just yet.

A Decade Later

I could not feel the coldness on the floor of both of our bathroom floors in our apartments, It wasn’t until I got to our house and I was working at Barwis Methods where I told Sean that the bedroom floor is cold.

He told me the bathroom floor has always been cold, but I never felt it! That wasn’t until my nerve endings were re-awakened my blood flow improved working out at Barwis Methods. That was in the summer of 2013 and it ended October 2016 when I injured my knee.

Well, fast forward until October 18 to 2026 and I no longer can feel the coldness on my bathroom floor. I guess neuropathy has really set in and I’m not liking how that feels. My Mom was putting on my compression socks today and she needed to leave the bathroom to get something so she left my foot on the floor. My bathroom floor is always cold, but today was not. I told my Mom that and she moved my foot and asked, “How about now?!” I responded with a dejected, “No.

That really stinks! All of my gains ant Barwis Methods are gone a decade later.

Terrified!!!

I’ve been saying for years that my temperature gauge is broken and I no longer can control my body temperature. Check out what happened to me today:

When I woke up, my face was hot because the temperature was at 72°. That was before I got out of bed. My Mom turned the temperature down to 71° and she put it on the air conditioner. I had the hardest time transferring to my chair from my bed. I was no assistance at all for my Mom and that scared me! I was in and out of consciousness as I leaned all the way back in my chair once I got into it. I slide my body backwards, so I am more comfortable sitting. My Mom had to fasten my pelvis stabilizer because I couldn’t move.

I was still terrified once I realized that my arms could not move at all. My Mom had to leave so I just told her what I needed, and I completely felt like Wesley in the Princess Bride when his arms weren’t working after he was dead and miracle Max brought him back to life.

I kind of chuckled to myself with that thought but I was still terrified. My Mom had to do everything for me. She put my phone tether around my neck and gave me my contacts to put in my undershirt so when I put them in my eyes, they are room temperature. She had to leave and I told her that I needed two Yetis of water and two shakes. She put my Goli on a fork and put that on my lap because I could not move my arms yet.

I received my Social Security/Disability check today so I placed my Target order that is coming tomorrow. I sat in my chair with my hands on my lap because my arms were not moving. It took one full rosary and a full chaplet for me to begin to start to move.

I know everything that I need to do once I get paid and I know it was just going to take a bit longer. My mind was swimming and I didn’t know how I was going to get control of it. Again, I was terrified!

It’s the change of season. That is really getting to me! I was comfortable and I continued praying and slowly got everything I needed to get done, done.

When she got home, I get ready for the day and I had my dinner before she left again. We put air on when we are working in the restroom because it’s a small room and two people’s body heat is a lot! So the heat was off when she left. I went to church and then began to freeze. I fell asleep as I was huddled within myself. My arms were in my sweatshirt, and I passed out.

This was also so scary and my body has been hot and then it was cold, so I really don’t know what’s going on! All I know is that my body did not feel well for most of the day!

All I can do at this point is hope that tomorrow is a better day. I will check the weather and make my decisions for overnight tonight. #MSsucks!!! 😒😒😒😒…

I thought of purple hearts but I’m not going to watch that movie now because that’s more warmer weather viewing. I’ll post this song in the comments today as well as the clip of Wesley without his arms working because that’s how I felt this morning!!! That and terrified!!!
