Confession

Last week, just after my brother made the eandom Shirley Temple reference, my Mom was talking to him on the phone and I was seated in the kitchen taking my vitamins and overhearing their conversation. She put him on speaker and unbeknownst to him, he confessed. Immediately when he said this, I started to laugh and my Mom had no idea what he was talking about.

He said something extremely mundane but it was completely an inside joke and something only me and my two immediate older brothers would understand. He was forced to explain this comment to my Mom through my laughter! I’ve been thinking about writing this post for a while and it makes me laugh every time I think about it!

As I have been thinking about writing this post, this song popped into my head, completely unrelated, but my brother DID just confess:

My brother said, “Not I, said the duck!” I responded by laughing uncontrollably and my Mom had no idea what we were talking about.

Here is what he was talking about:

When I was a child, I think it was in a cartoon about a Mother Hen and her wanting assistance in the kitchen. i’m pretty sure there were three animals there, a cat, a duck, and a pig. Each one of the animals took a turn to say, “Not I.” My two older brothers would say the lines and one would be the duck and the other would be the cat and therefore would only leave, “Not I, said the pig!”

I continued to laugh as my brother explained this role assignment to my Mom. He told my Mom that the only line left for me to say was, “Not I, said the pig!” My Mom was completely aghast and she looked at me as I laughed and told me that I should never have said it. That is where Dave stated his confession:He told my Mom that if I didn’t say it, they would have beat me up!

The shocked look on her face continued as my laughter did! They would definitely have beat me up if I didn’t say it and they beat me up for so many other things throughout my childhood that I have lost count! But, it was nice to hear him confess that to my Mom. It’s better late than never and I don’t mind that it took about 33 years to take place but at least it took place!!!
