A Nice Fall

A Facebook friend posted this meme and I loved it and shared it with Sean and my Mom:

I SO want this to be me!!! I’m thinking it may be. at least for September. The first day of Fall comes the day before my naturopath appointment, which is the final appointment for September.

October has four van rentals and November has three because I have to get my teeth cleaned. At least I will be able to breathe with all of these appointments. It’s kind of stinky that there are STILL ‘hot pockets’ in the day, which makes me feel terrible!!!

I will be happy when it’s full-time Fall weather!!! That only lasts for a short time before the winter sets in and I freeze, but I’m looking forward to having a nice Fall.

“I’ll have It.”

So, I dropped this in the beginning of August (I no longer have full control of my hands so I seem to be dropping things a whole lot) and it chipped. I kind of laughed and told my Mom that it has taken 20 years for this to chip! And let me ‘splain ya:

We moved out of my Parents’ house on August 1, 2005. By the time I got the keys to our apartment, I had already ordered furniture that was coming a couple days later.

Sean and I went to Target to outfit my kitchen. I felt quite grown-up buying a large box that had tons of different sized Pyrex containers. All of the adults I knew, had Pyrex containers and I had never been responsible for running the household before. I figured that this was a good start.

We went to the grocery store as well and at that time, it was still novel and fun. I think it was a few days after all of this when my Mom came over to continue helping me unpack or something. She saw all of my Pyrex containers, and I told her that I got it at Target and it was $40!

I was expecting her to applaud my grown-up purchase or something. My Mom just looked at all of the stuff (most of it still in the box) and just said, “I’ll have it.”

I think Sean was running around the living area, watching TV, or something and I just remember telling him, “Looks like we’re going back to Target tomorrow Sean.” I laughed with my Mom because it has been NOT chipped these past 20 years and my Mom took a picture to show the chip. That’s the microwave I bought a couple days before it and it still works!

She left our apartment with that box of Pyrex containers. I broke mine a few years ago and she brought that ramekin back for me and now it’s chipped. I still use it though!

Worth a Repost!!!

So, I stopped posting my monthly Faves when it got too warm for me to think. So yesterday was the first of the month and I’m feeling an of the month and I’m feeling a little bit wonky still. So I posted what I posted on September 1, 2023.

Well, I reread that post and was immediately taken back to my work. I worked there for 12 years and I taught in three classrooms. One classroom when I taught English and two classrooms when I taught Reading. So I was thinking about all of this as I listened to the first song and it’s definitely worth a repost here as well:

Astute.

We got our haircut on August 20. I was set to wear my T-shirt and zippy, but I was just too lazy to change. My Mom told me that she would put the air on in the van if it got too unbearable. I thought I would be fine.

Well, turns out that I had to put my hood on when I got out of the van because I was so cold. As I was getting my haircut, my Mom said, “Oh Jennifer, that’s different!”

I did notice that Christina was cutting my hair differently. I just sat there, and Christina said, “Well, I know that she gets cold!” Both my Mom and me agreed with that statement. I think that Christina noticed that I was wearing my regular sweatshirt, signifying that I was cold.

By the 17th, I may be wearing my winter coat because I wore it on August28 when I got new windows. I thought that was really astute of Christina. It’s like she’s been cutting my hair for over 20 years or something?! Oh wait, she has!

“Just Use a Pencil, Miss”

I had a passing memory yesterday and today, because it’s a better weather, I actually teased it out. The memory I have is from when I was teaching English. I was cleaning out my emails yesterday and I saw this one:

Screenshot

I have no idea why I am getting these emails in my ‘promotions’ mailbox, but seeing this made me think of a student that I had and her name escapes me. I had her sister as well.

Seeing that ‘zigzag part’ reminded me of talking to you student about that. When I taught English, I would periodically wheel my wheelchair right up to the student tables to do something with paperwork. One of my students would always come to school with a ‘zigzag part’ that I thought looked so cool!

This memory is vague, but I remember talking to her about that and the fact that it looks so cool and I asked her how she did it. She was unfazed and looked at me and just said, “Just use a pencil, Miss.” Iooked at her questioningly and kind of furrowed my brows a bit.

She was doing work and she held up her pencil and kind of beckoned me to lean forward. My hair was clean, so I hesitantly bent my head down and forward. She took her pencil, made a zigzag with her pencil on my scalp, and then separated my hair.

I remember smiling and and thanking her and telling her that I felt cool. I don’t know how long it lasted. But I saw that email and I thought about that silliness in my classroom from so many years ago. It had to be probably 2007 or 2008?
